Proof that God Exists

An atheist professor was teaching a college class, and he told the class that he was going to prove that there was no God. He said, “God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I’ll give you 15 minutes!” With one minute remaining, he kept taunting God, saying, “Here I am, God, I’m still waiting.”

At the same time, a Christian Marine walked by the door on his way to a recruiting meeting. He stopped and listened to what the professor said, then walked into the classroom and hit the professor full force, sending him flying off the platform. The professor got up and said, “Where did you come from, and why did you do that?”

The Marine replied, “God was busy; He sent me!”

The pollsters tell us that Americans poll between 4 to 26 % atheists, and all agree that the number of atheists and agnostics in our country is going up. This is all the more amazing if we consider the growing evidence our modern world produces for the truth of scripture and God’s existence. Paul writes in Romans 1:20, “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” I recently heard Otangelo Grasso, a Swiss Italian machine designer, share his thoughts on the impossibility of the evolutionary worldview. He was intrigued by the cell’s ability to self-replicate. This cannot be done in the world of machines. A designer must design all machines, which are far simpler than cells. In his three-volume book, X-ray of Life, he raises thousands of problems that must be solved to create life.

Chemist, James Tour, has decimated seventy years of Origin of Life theories in the past few years. He has asked chemistry questions that these scientists cannot answer. I think his objections will destroy the theory of evolution in the next ten years. The more we learn about cellular life, the more impossible the naturalistic explanation of life becomes.

In Psalm 19:1, we read, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Each day, new information from the James Webb Space Telescope challenges everything astrophysicists think they know about space. The Big Bang Theory will have to be completely reworked, as the heavens seem to be declaring that God has gloriously created the universe.

We read in Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart…” C.S. Lewis wrote that a strong proof for God’s existence is that there is a universal moral law that all people know is true. If there is such a law, there must be a lawgiver who places that law in people’s hearts. That lawgiver is God.

The Bible is God’s infallible word, given to us to know what truth is. II Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness…” In Lee Strobel’s book, The Case for Christ, he starts out an atheist but becomes a Christian as he investigates Christianity’s claims. It includes an extensive study of why we can believe in the authority of scripture.

Any one of the above proofs of God is enough to persuade me to believe in God. Combined they make a complete proof of God’s existence that only those who refuse to believe can deny them. The greatest revelation of God is given to us by His Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. French philosopher, mathematician and physicist Blaise Pascal (1623–62) posits that humans bet with their lives that God either exists or does not. His challenge has become known as “Pascal’s Wager”. He argues that a rational person should live as though God exists and seek to believe in God. If God does not actually exist, such a person will have only a finite loss (some pleasures, luxury, etc.). In contrast, they stand to receive infinite gains (as represented by eternity in Heaven) and avoid infinite losses (eternity in Hell).

God wants more from us than belief in Him. satan believes there is a God. How important is your faith in God to everything you do? Have you placed God at the center of your life in every way? If you choose to do so, then God will be glorified in all you think, say, and do.
